So Boldly

- Elena German (California, USA)

how could the night be lonely

when the shine of our moon makes way for the first chorus of the crickets’ symphony?

they must look so dapper in their cricket suits

and they’ve spent all the day’s heat practicing for when the sun subsides

then when the bright moon illuminates a once-busy meadow,

when slight butterflies have taken their seats,

then begins— the cricket symphony.
