In Another Life
- Shane Pacheco (Pennsylvania, America)
I think,
in another life,
we were stray cats.
You had black fur, blue in the light.
A few scars, toughened.
I was orange and wobbly.
Not one they thought would live.
We met each other.
I think,
in another life,
we were wildflowers.
You were planned to commemorate a life,
and I was planted to fill up gaps.
We were purple and pink, complimentary.
We met each other.
I think,
in another life,
we were never humans.
That’s the only way I can explain the human connection,
after lifetime upon lifetime of paws and leaves,
we were finally human.
I didn’t recognize your brown braids or hoodies,
but I recognized you.
In this life,
we met each other.
