Who are We?

The Poetry Monthly is a non-profit Sonoma County, California-based literary magazine founded by 18-year old Ella Wen, the county’s Youth Poet Laureate (2021-2023). It compiles poetry pieces from authors of all ages to deliver to the clients of the Ceres Community Project, who are in need of community comfort and support.

The Mission

Ella Wen wishes to publish the art of her community in an accessible magazine for those who need art most. This project is directed to spread not only the importance of poetry, but also to promote heartfelt connections across generations through a shared respect and honor for each other’s stories. She hopes to include poets of all ages in this magazine and give aspiring authors the chance to publish and readers the chance to heal.

“food is medicine for the body.

poetry is food for the soul.”

The Ultimate Goal

Ella’s ultimate goal for this magazine is to uplift authors and actually encourage Ceres clients themselves to write and share their own poetry in order to communicate their influential stories and selves. She believes poetry is an incredibly healing process unlike any other method that allows one to not only create, but express their heart and soul through the beautiful thing that is art.
